Get Closer to our Collection this Half Term
This half term ‘Get Closer’ with our experienced Museum team and lift the bonnet on some your favourite cars from our Supercars, Red Room, American Dream, Motorcycle Mezzanine, Morris Garages and Memory Lane collections.
This special event is for all ages, giving visitors the opportunity to lift the Museum rope on selected vehicles and explore with a member of our Museum team.
For younger visitors, delve into the science of how a car runs, have a chance to sit in our Red Cadillac and get closer to hidden gems not usually on show to the public! For the seasoned enthusiast this event is the perfect opportunity to explore the finer details on some of our prized vehicles that are usually not visible to the public. Questions are highly encouraged, so please do drop in during half term for specific vehicles and activities.

Saturday 25 May, 10:00 – 12:00 - Lift the Bonnets!
Follow the signs within our Museum to get up close to a selection of cars with our Collections team in some of our main exhibition areas. Lift the bonnets, look inside and talk with our team.
Saturday 25 May, 13:30 – 15:30 - Family Focus
Head to our Memory Lane exhibit to discover how an engine works and get closer to hidden gems not usually on show to the public! Ages 5+
Sunday 26 May, 10:00 – 12:00 – Lift the Bonnets!

Head to our Hall of Motorsports and get up close to a selection of cars with our Collections team. Lift the bonnets, look inside and talk with our team.
Monday 27 May, 13:30 – 15:30 - Family Focus - Guess the part
Join our team in The Red Room for a game of guess the part! In particular we’ll be focussing on the Triumph Chassis.
Tuesday 28 May, 10:00 – 12:00 – The Supercar Century - Lift the Bonnets!
Explore the Supercar Century and Hall of Motorsport with our Collections team. Lift the bonnets, look inside and talk with our team.
Tuesday 28 May,13:30 – 15:30 - A car that could beat Ferrari?
Follow the signs within the Museum for a close up of our GT40. We’ll be focussing on the power and might of the GT40 and the fascinating story of Ford’s desire to produce a car that could beat Ferrari. You’ll also get a chance to explore the car in full with a member of our team.

Wednesday 29 May, 13:30 – 15:30 – Family Focus - Handling the Collection.
Join us in the Morris Garages exhibition for a special Get Closer afternoon. This has a real archival feel to the day as the Collections team will be refreshing the archive items on display in the Morris garage. Visitor can have a chance at handling some of the smaller items and learning about how they work. These items are not usually available to visitors so come and explore the Morris Garages with us - Lift the bonnets, look inside and talk with our team.
Thursday 30 May, 10:00 – 12:00 – A Passion for Motoring
Join us in our American Dream and Supercar Century exhibits, explore the cars in full and get closer – lift the bonnets, look inside and talk with our team.
Our Collections team will also be bringing in their own prized vintage and classic vehicles for display in the car park to talk and show to visitors as an added extra, and to share their passion for motoring. (Weather dependant)

Our Friday bike Collections team will select a bike with a great story behind it and we’ll re-display for the day to enable visitors to see it from all angles. Visitors can also explore our Foreshaw Collection of bibs and leathers and find out how our team undertake some conservation tasks on these special items.
